Lord God, As we begin this day, bless us with your protection and guide our thoughts, words and actions so they may please you in every way. May our actions be like salts that flavor the life of the people we meet today. Make our words also be a light to guide and strengthen them.

God says things like this: “You are my beloved.” “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” “I formed you in your mother's womb.” “If you will seek my face, you will find me.” Etc. God's message for me today is always one of love, acceptance, and affirmation.

Finally, our Master, Jesus Christ, would tell us: Today matters. In the Sermon on the Mount, He tells us to seek first his kingdom, and all the other needs we have will be added to us. Following that challenge, he reminds us not to worry about tomorrow — each day has enough trouble of its own. Just focus on today.

In Matthew 6:11, in the middle of the Lord's Prayer, Jesus teaches us to pray for our daily bread when He says, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Is He referring to our provision? Yes, but I think He's talking about more than just our natural, physical provision.
